  7. What is the problem with the geoGraph program?? Everytime I try to use the SET
  8. function, the program locks up. This is supposed to be a contest winning
  9. application! Who judged it? Is there a fix? I would appreciate it if Mr. Ernest
  10. Hunter(author) would come up with a fix for the program. Thank you.

  21.    I can't answer as to who judged geoGraph for the contest, but I test every
  22. GEOS file before it goes into our libraries.  I had been told that there was a
  23. problem with the SET function, so I paid special attention to that function in
  24. reading the documentation, and in testing the program.  This program really
  25. requires reading the docs.
  26.    What I found was that the SET function uses buttons that are very different
  27. than anything we've ever seen in GEOS.  A normal GEOS button, of course,
  28. requires that you move the mouse to it, then click.  The buttons in the SET
  29. function are what I believe are called "Sun windows", from being used first on
  30. Sun workstations.
  31.    You don't click them.  You just move the cursor to them, and they are
  32. activated.  Try this experiment, after booting GEOS and bringing up geoGraph,
  33. select SET from the menu, and then move the cursor to the MENU button of the
  34. SET menu.  If everything is working right, you should be exited from the SET
  35. function. Just to clarify, the MENU button to choose is not the one at the top
  36. of the screen, but the one that's part of the display that appears when you
  37. choose SET.
  38.    If that doesn't work, get back in touch, please.  I'll need to know what
  39. release of GEOS you're running, and what release deskTop.  I did test this
  40. program thoroughly, but it's always possible I missed something, and there may
  41. be a problem running with some versions.
  42.    On the other hand, if it does work, I think the best way to learn this
  43. package is to run through the example given in the documentation.  It does a
  44. good job of excersizing the various features.   <ed>

  53. I read the CBM documentation and I understand it. The geoWrite document does
  54. not load into geoWrite. It gives a message of "TEXT BEYOND VLI". Suggesetions?

  65.    The geoWrite file contains the same info as the CBM file.  I'm not familiar
  66. with that error message, though.  What release of geoWrite are you using. I
  67. wonder if that's the problem.  Any luck with the SET option yet?

  76. I am using the geoWrite with the GEOS 1.2 . Is that a problem? I have yet to
  77. recieve my update disks yet. Your letter of March 9 and the documentation refer
  78. to a "mouse". I use a joystick. Could that be a problem? Seems that I read some
  79. letters on another BB and they had problems and they used a mouse. Let me know
  80. about mouse vs. joystick. I have read the geos programming
  81.  
  82. manual and it seems as the drivers return the same info. Let me know. thanx!

  92.     It may not be much satisfaction, but you've solved the mysterious SET
  93. problem in geoGraph!  It doesn't work properly with 1.2.  We have seen only one
  94. other program like this, which was the GEOS 2.0 demo, that just won't work with
  95. 1.2.
  96.     I've already changed our description of the file to keep other 1.2 users
  97. from downloading this, and I apologize for the inconvenience.
  98.     It seems to work fine with every other GEOS, and either mouse or joystick
  99. works fine.

  107. The SET command does indeed work, but not for everyone.  If the problem is not
  108. the "user interface" it might be the 64 itself.  GeoGraph is not as friendly as
  109. most want to believe. Also, the "beyond v1.1" message means that the file was
  110. written on geoWrite 2.0 or geoWrite 2.1.  Download "wisw61" which can downgrade
  111. the file to geoWrite 1.2 & 1.3 format (they both create 1.1 documents.)

  122.    Good news!  We have a fixed version of geoGraph.  I've personally tested
  123. this with GEOS 64 2.0, 1.3, and 1.2, as well as GEOS 128 2.0 and 1.3.  It
  124. works. Since you've already got the rest of the package, the file you want is
  125. GRPHFX.BIN in LIB 13.  It's an ARC file that contains the fixed geoGraph, and a
  126. very short note on the changes that were made.
  127.    We've also replaced the buggy version in GRPHER.BIN, for those who haven't
  128. yet downloaded geoGraph.
